The do's and don'ts of YALLFest
November 10th-11th 2017, thousands of young adult literature fans flooded Downtown Charleston, S.C for its seventh annual YALLFest. 79 authors, a multitude of panels and book signings, and lip sync battles you’d never thought you’d see. YALLFest packs so much literature entertainment into a two day weekend that you’ll be left satisfied till next year’s fest.
This year, YALLFest will be held November 9th-10th. Same destination, same fun, and the some of the same amazing authors along with some new ones. 68 of your favorite YA authors will be in attendance, and keynote speakers this year include Jenny Han (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), James Patterson (Maximum Ride), R.J. Palacio (Wonder) and many more that you’ll just have to come see for yourself!
If this is your first time attending, or you just feel like you need some guidance for the upcoming fest, here are some do’s and don’ts to follow to make your time at YALLFest the best yet!
Do bring your books.
Several authors will be having book signings throughout the fest! Keep a look out for who you want to meet though, and know you won’t be the only one, so try and get there early! Keep in mind to bring no more than 3 books per author per trip through line!
Do bring your questions.
There will be panels, panels, panels glore! Ranging from topics surrounding LGBTQIA+, friendship, love, and much more so don’t be shy, and bring your questions! The authors are dying to answer them!
Do bring your notebook.
With so much creativity flourishing about ,you are bound to find new ideas, learn some writing tips, or just hear something that you might want to save for later development! Don’t feel self-conscious about carrying a notebook around; you won’t be the only one!
Do know that there are lots of free events offered through the weekend.
Don’t let money issues keep you from attending! You can find a full list of events and see all that are offered for free on the festival’s website. Creativity is never held back by heavy prices! Don’t let money stop you from enjoying YALLFest!
Don’t take these two book fueled days for granted.
68 of some of the best YA authors today will be out and about downtown Charleston. As Ms. Frizzle always says, take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!
Don’t challenge your favorite authors to physical fights.
We all have characters we miss, sunken relationships, and many other accounts of authors flipping our favorite books’ worlds upside down, but lets keep it civil folks! We don’t need another Red Wedding on our hands!
And remember, make the most out of each day! YALLFest only comes around once a year!
